implantology

Dental Implants are screws made of biocompatible titanium that are placed in the jawbone to replace missing teeth. Titanium, known as tissue-friendly, easily adapts to biological tissues by creating a special bond with the bone at the cellular level. Implants are placed in the jawbone with a minor surgical procedure in case of single or multiple missing teeth. Implants integrate with the bone in an average of 2-6 months, depending on the density of the bone to which they are applied, the bone area applied, and factors such as the patient's age and general health condition. After this process, the implants are placed on them. Movable or fixed prostheses can be made.

If there is a missing tooth;

Tooth loss is the beginning of a series of events that will result in both physical and aesthetic loss. Loss of one or more teeth will cause a hole in your smile. It will also cause loss of chewing function and prevent you from eating healthy. Excessive tooth loss also causes serious problems in the jaw joints. If these problems are not resolved early, they may become permanent.

Again, the biggest problem that occurs in missing teeth is bone loss. If there is no tooth root, which stimulates the jaw bone, resorption (melting) begins in the bone. Teeth and the tissues around them are important in the appearance of the jaw and face. Loss of teeth and surrounding tissues also causes negative changes in our physical appearance. Jaw- Depressions in the facial appearance, shrinkage at the edges of the lips and an older appearance occur. Dental implants help prevent these problems that may occur (especially preventing bone loss).

What are the advantages of dental implants?

It is the best alternative when natural teeth are missing.
Chewing functions are the system closest to our own natural teeth.
It minimizes jaw bone resorption (in the missing tooth area).
The teeth adjacent to the missing teeth are not worn down, and our natural teeth are not damaged.
It is a more aesthetically successful procedure.
Patients feel more relaxed and comfortable compared to removable dentures.

IN WHICH CASES ARE IMPLANTS MADE?

Implants; It is applied in cases where a single tooth is missing, more than one tooth is missing or there are no teeth in the mouth.

WITH MORE THAN ONE TEETH MISSING
Two or more implants are used as abutments and a prosthesis is made in the form of a bridge system,

IN TOTAL LACK OF TOOTH
A removable total or partial denture can be made by placing at least two implants in the lower jaw and at least 4 implants in the upper jaw.

Or fixed prostheses can be made by applying more implants.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED CRITERIA FOR AN IMPLANT?

Dental implants can be placed if the jaw bone is of sufficient thickness and height. In cases where there is not enough jawbone; By applying various procedures to this area (synthetic, human or animal bone grafts) and adding new bone, it is made suitable for the placement of the implant.

WILL I HAVE PAIN IN THE IMPLANT application?

Since the implant placement process is performed under local anesthesia, there is no pain. Although local anesthesia is generally preferred before the operation, general anesthesia can also be used if the patient prefers and the physician deems it appropriate. Very little pain may be felt on the first day of the procedure. Your doctor gives some medications and recommendations to control possible pain.

ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS FOR IMPLANTS?

There is no upper age limit for implants. For children and young people, they must have completed their growth development (16-18 years old).

WHEN ARE PROSTHESIES MADE AFTER IMPLANT OPERATION?

After the implant operation, the prosthesis is made 1.5 to 3 months later. In some cases, immediate implant applications are also performed. The tooth can be extracted and replaced immediately with an implant (provided there is no active infection and there is primary stability). Or in some cases (especially in the anterior region), implant and superstructure prosthesis can be performed in the same session.
